So the road trip finally begun, after 2 buses, 2 planes and not much sleep we picked up our mobile home for the next 3 months ‘The Silver Bullet’ Dodge and put pedal to the metal all the way to Palm Springs. Needless to say we were exhausted. We headed to Ruby’s Diner for our first taste of true Americana cuisine, burgers and fries were very much enjoyed after 10 days of spicy dodgy Mexican. The meal was made extra special by our waiter Joe who really made us feel special. There was an O.D on blue rinses and fake tits and the only male company we found was in the form of little blonde boys – our new best friends Ryan and Joshua:

So after a trip up the aerial tramway and a visit to the non-existent ‘Desert Hot Springs’ otherwise known as resort hotel pools we hit the road in search of Pioneertown, a purpose built Wild West film set from the early 20th Century. We had seen in the local paper that Peaches had been playing at the pub the night before so we were excited for some young, fun interaction. When we arrived however, the town appeared to be deserted and everything was closed.
Not long after this we found some more life in the form of a naked cowboy a.k.a Grampz Rick Russell and our new found friends Fiona, Anna and Tico. They had been invited by Grampz to accompany him to a commune in the mountains called ‘God’s Way Love’. We jumped at the chance of adventure and followed them to see if Peaches and her entourage wanted to come too. We hung with them for some mid day vino’s and chatted with a fellow Bondi local ‘Vaughn’ before jumping in the car and heading for the hills.
After an eventful day in the desert we tried to find a cheap motel for the night, but found everything to be booked out. We ended up getting cardboard boxes to barricade the windows and spending our first night in the Silver Bullet. We kept convincing ourselves we were in first class Qantas, except when we woke up at the crack of dawn with dead legs and sore necks! We drove through a blissfully empty Joshua Tree National Park and onto Arizona. Stay tuned for the Arizona post next week…

Have we really only been gone 6 days? We have had adventures by the bucket load in Mexico, from marriage propositions to tequila related injuries it feels like a years worth of memories already.
We flew into Cancun on Wednesday and headed straight to Playa del Carmen, where we were stalked by a creepy old American ex pat and had a smorgous board of offers of a Mexican boyfriend for the night. So tempting…
Now we are in a little Mayan village called Tulum aka paradise. We have a cabana right on the beach and the only light after dark is candles, so very romantic for us lovers…
Yesterday we went to an all inclusive eco fun park which saw us jumping off cliffs, swinging jungle jane style into cenontes and consuming copious amounts of food and tequila. So much so that the only part of our bodies that got burnt were our protruding bellies! The tequila festivities continued into the night were Hayley was a salsa dancing queen and Josie was a fluent Spanish linguist. We also managed to break the cardinal road trip rule of not loosing each other while drunk. Hayley found herself asleep in the gutter and $1000 pesos out of pocket in her cab ride home while Josie decided the best method of transportation was to hop on the back of a french mans bicycle and thrash her way through the jungle. See the results for yourselves:
